We have visited multiple developments, taken many photographs, looked in depth at developer brochures (both the big ones and the smaller ones), websites and national and local press. These companies include: Barratt Homes, Bathurst Development Ltd, Bellway, Bloor, Bovis Homes, Burrington Estates, Crest Nicholson, David Wilson Homes, Harwood Homes, Hills, Lioncourt Homes, Matthew Homes, Miller Homes, Millford Designer Homes, Newland Homes, Persimmon, Redrow, and Taylor Wimpeyand we do not like what we see.
We have looked at their company accounts, revenue and profit figures, and examined the political party donor registers. You will find more on the Financials page, here.
There also seems to be some difficulty in establishing exactly how many new homes have been built in the UK against the published target of 300,000 new homes. The government mentions a total of 241,000 in many places, including on 2/7 Any Questions, by Rt Hon Chris Pincher MP. Conversions are then deducted, which brings the total to 213,000. The developer tables do not identify anything near that total. Housing associations do build a few thousand, but there is a large discrepancy.
