North West Cheltenham - Elms Park Persimmon and Bloor Homes have applied to build 4,115 homes on a green field site at North West Cheltenham between the villages of Elmstone Hardwicke and Swindon Village. The development will be known as Elms Park. After 13 years of discussions an agreement was made between Councils, developers and local campaigners Save the Countryside to build one of the largest ever developments in the country, but at the same time retain a portion of the land as local green space, and maintain much green space within the development itself. This development was promoted as sustainable.
While full planning permission is yet to be agreed on the total development, the first part of the development (Swindon Farm – 280 houses) which sets the standard for the whole, has been submitted for approval. Save the Countryside continue to work closely with Cheltenham Borough council and local Parish Councils to ensure that the development meets the needs of the whole community, new and existing, minimising any negative impact on the local environment.
